At the beginning of 2023, at the Auto India Expo, Suzuki unveiled the five-door version of the Jimny for the Indian market. We were envious, of course, because we were always hankering for a five-door version of this cute off-roader since it entered the country back in 2018. Well, the long wait may be over soon as an eagle-eyed traveler spotted a trailer transporting a group of five-door Jimny’s through an expressway in the country.
Images captured by Glenn SP reveal a group of Suzuki Jimny five-door units on a car carrier truck, reportedly traversing the STAR Tollway, possibly originating from the Port of Batangas. In terms of appearance, the five-door version retains its original design, with the only noticeable difference being its extended length when viewed from the side. The standard three-door Jimny measures 3,650 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width, and 1,725 mm in height.
In contrast, the five-door variant boasts dimensions of 3,985 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width, and a height of 1,720 mm. The seating arrangement remains unchanged as a four-seater SUV, but the extra 335 mm in length and of course, the addition of two more doors will provide additional convenience and comfort.
For the powertrain, expect that the five-door version will share the same powertrain as the three-door variant—a 1.5-liter K15B four-cylinder engine. This engine delivers 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque and can be paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic along with Suzuki’s 4WD AllGrip Pro system
Suzuki Philippines is still mum on the official launch date of the five-door Jimny so we can’t set an exact date for 2024 yet. Although there is no exact date, the mere sighting of these cars is a good indication that Suzuki Philippines is close to holding the official launch.
