Suzuki updates the Jimny 3-Door with Suzuki Safety Support

Suzuki Philippines has just announced that the Jimny 3-Door is getting an update through the addition of Suzuki Safety Support, bringing advanced driver assistance tech to one of the most capable 4x4 vehicles on the market.

The Jimny 3-Door needs no introduction. Its boxy silhouette, compact dimensions, and impressive off-roading capabilities have made it an icon on the market and on the road. Suzuki says this recent update will not only mean the Jimny is a trail-ready car, but it will also be more reassuring as a daily driver and on long highway trips.

Focusing back on the updates, Suzuki Safety Support is a suite of preventive safety technologies designed to aid in avoiding collisions and reducing driver fatigue. The feature set includes Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), which uses a camera and laser sensor to detect vehicles or pedestrians ahead of the car on the road. When the system detects that a potential collision may happen, it sends audio and visual warnings and can also apply the brakes on its own when necessary. It is worth remembering that DSBS II works within the limits of its monocular camera and millimeter-wave radar. It can only react to what those sensors can see, so drivers should never rely on it alone. Safe driving habits still come first.

Available across all New Jimny 3-Door variants, Adaptive Cruise Control uses a forward-facing camera and radar to hold a preset speed while automatically adjusting acceleration and braking based on traffic ahead. It takes some of the stress out of long highway runs without taking you out of the equation.

Lane Departure Prevention adds a gentle steering input if the Jimny starts to drift out of its lane, while Lane Departure Warning sends out audio and visual alerts along with steering feedback to get your attention. There is also a Weaving Alert function that keeps an eye on your driving pattern. If it senses unusual swaying, it triggers a buzzer sound and a dashboard warning. High Beam Assist rounds out the package by automatically switching between high and low beams depending on traffic and lighting conditions. It activates at speeds of 30 km/h and above when the headlamp switch is set to auto, giving you better visibility at night without blinding other drivers.

Inside, the updates go beyond safety. GLX variants now get a new nine-inch infotainment touchscreen that feels more modern and intuitive to use. The information displayed in the gauge cluster has also been refreshed with a new colored screen, replacing the old red-orange graphics. Both GL and GLX variants now come equipped with Front Side Airbags and Curtain Airbags for improved occupant protection. Front parking sensors are now standard across the range to make squeezing into tight spots less stressful, while the GL variant adds a reverse camera for better visibility when backing up.

Mechanically, powering the Jimny is the familiar 1.5-liter gasoline engine that produces 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The proven 4x4 ALLGRIP PRO system remains at the heart of its off-road capability. Drivers can switch to 2WD for smooth and efficient driving on paved roads, 4WD High for extra grip on loose surfaces, and 4WD Low when tackling sand, mud, or steep rocky trails.
