Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has been on a roll in the past months as it has recently launched the face-lifted Toyota Wigo and it will also be launching the facelifted Toyota Vios as well. While these refreshed models are already big achievements for a company that is still recovering from the effects of the still ongoing pandemic, it seems as though it still has big plans for the last half of 2020.
According to an article done by TopGear Philippines, it seems as though the Japanese brand still has plans to launch another vehicle into its local lineup. The media outlet has also stated that TMP will be bringing in the recently launched Toyota Corolla Cross into the country. The vehicle has already been reportedly spotted at the Japanese brand’s Santa Rosa plant. While there are no photos available of the vehicle it could mean that the model will launch sometime soon. Based on the recent launch schedule, we can guess that this crossover will launch sometime in August or perhaps even in September.
The all-new Corolla Cross has already been launched in Thailand and as the name states are based on the same chassis as the Toyota Corolla Altis. In its Thai spec it comes with two power options a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline motor and a similar displacement hybrid drivetrain. The gasoline-powered engine produces 138hp and 177 Nm of torque while the hybrid powertrain makes 120hp. Torque figures for the hybrid motor haven’t been released yet but we assume it will be around the 200 Nm mark. Both variants of the crossover will have a CVT that will send power exclusively to the front wheels.
There is no official word yet as to when Toyota Philippines plans to debut the new model or what technology features it will come with, however, our best guess is that it will come to the local market equipped with Toyota Safety Sense features. Other information such as how many variants and their specifications and pricing are still unknown. We will update you with more information as it comes in.
