The glory days of combustion-engine cars could soon be over as the future of mobility is shifting to electric power. Cars are going electric and countries are implementing stringent policies to help reduce greenhouse gases.
The global automotive industry responds to this trend by making huge investments in electric vehicle research and development. Toyota and Mazda are among the automotive manufacturers that rides the electric vehicle (EV) bandwagon.
As such, these 2 Japanese automotive brands together with Denso signed a contract to jointly develop basic structural technologies for electric vehicles.
Toyota, Mazda, and Denso will also establish a new company, called EV C.A. Spirit Co., Ltd. It will consist of selected engineers from the 3 companies in order to ensure efficient implementation of the joint technological developments.
The primary goal of these 3 companies is to jointly develop a wide range of EVs. They are looking into producing electric-powered mini to passenger vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks. With that in mind, Toyota will share its New Global Architecture platform, while Mazda is going to contribute with product planning and computer modeling-based development. Denso, on the other hand, will take on electronics technologies.
