Toyota Philippines recently launched the refreshed 2021 Toyota Vios in the country. Not only did the launch bring in the refreshed sedan but it also brought with it new information with regards to what vehicles Toyota could be bringing for the remainder of 2020. During the media event of the launch, publications were treated to a Q and A session with members of Toyota Motors Philippines.
During this session members of the media were able to ask Toyota Motor Philippines president Astuhiro Okamoto, what possible new vehicles the brand will be bringing in next. While he was only able to give out a certain amount of information he did mention that the Toyota Corolla Cross would be coming into the country but at an unknown date. He also mentioned that the facelifted Hilux coming to the Philippines this year was a possible scenario, however, he didn't mention too much information about it.
Originally launched in Thailand, the Corolla Cross slots right under the Toyota RAV4 and rides on the same TNGA platform as the 12th generation Toyota Corolla Altis. Similar to that of the sedan it's based on, the new crossover also comes available with a hybrid power plant in Thailand. The Corolla Cross comes with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 1.8-liter hybrid which is similar to that found in the locally available Corolla Altis Hybrid. This means that a hybrid option of the Corolla Cross is a likely possibility for the vehicle once it enters the Philippine market.
If Toyota Philippines were to bring in the new crossover with its hybrid variant, then it could make hybrid models go mainstream in its lineup. With more hybrids slowly being available it could bring about a cleaner and better mobility options for car buyers in the Philippines. With that said Toyota has yet to announce the official pricing and official launch date of the Corolla Cross, however, we expect it to be sometime between Q3 and Q4 of 2020.
