2020 Toyota Corolla Cross exterior quarter front Philippines

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is up for another vehicle launch once again. After bringing in a refreshed Wigo and Vios, the renowned Japanese brand sent us an invitation for a launch event on August 20, which gives hints of a new hybrid crossover. We couldn’t help but assume that the much-awaited Toyota Corolla Cross is coming to the Philippines.

This assumption was strongly motivated by the recent article from Top Gear Philippines, wherein the Corolla Cross was spotted at the brand’s Santa Rosa plant. Sadly, there were no photos of the vehicle, then again, this could really mean that the model is bound for a local launch anytime soon.

It was also confirmed recently by Toyota Motor Philippines’ President, Astuhiro Okamoto that the Toyota Corolla Cross would be coming into the country but at an unknown date that we now think is August 20, 2020.

Toyota August 2020 launch teaser

To strengthen our speculations, TMP released a social media teaser of its upcoming launch. Upon observing the photo, that photo showcases a familiar frontend which resembles the new Corolla Cross.

The Toyota Corolla Cross was first launched in Thailand. In that respective market, the crossover comes with two engine options, a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline motor and a similar displacement hybrid drivetrain. Both power plants can only be paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Likewise, the model is based on the same chassis of the Corolla Altis

Like the current Corolla Altis being sold locally, the Corolla Cross might also come with the Toyota Safety Sense package which includes adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, along with lane departure warning, automatic high beam, and a pre-collision system.

The excitement just never stops with TMP, as they continue to feed us with constant anticipation. It’s good to see the Japanese brand working constantly progress despite the ongoing slowdown of the industry as mainly caused by the ongoing pandemic. Let's hope that these assumptions become accurate as we approach the official launch date.
