With the 2020 Toyota Supra less than half a year away from reaching the hands of lucky buyers in markets where it is available (ahem, Toyota Philippines), those who have waited 17 years for the nameplate’s revival can take some inspiration from Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Performance Line Concept. Set to be shown off at the 2019 Osaka Automesse, the TRD Performance Line Concept Toyota Supra is a good smattering of aerodynamic and lightweight parts, combined with a shining silver color.
Those looking for a huge performance bump will have to look elsewhere, however, as the turbocharged 3.0L inline-six cylinder still produces 335 hp and 495 Nm of torque. Granted, you’re still looking at a 0 to 100 km/h time of around 4.1 seconds, and a top speed that electronically limited to 249 km/h. What you do get in this TRD Performance Line Concept is the advantage of weight savings and handling improvements thanks to carbon fiber body parts and a new set of lighter alloys.
From the front, you’ll immediately notice that carbon fiber front chin spoiler, with winged edges to help direct airflow. The carbon motif carries over to the side in a big way, with the inclusion of prominent side skirts and a door garnish. At the rear, the carbon fiber winglets at the edge of the rear bumper and diffuser continue the look, and the rear carbon fiber wing rounds off the kit nicely. New 19-inch TRD alloy wheels reduce weight and improve steering feel. All of the winglets were positioned to reduce lift at the front, side, and rear of the car, resulting in greater high speed stability and cornering performance. TRD was looking to extract maximum aerodynamic performance out of the Toyota Supra with this kit, and seeing the kit done in beautiful carbon fiber is just a bonus.
