Despite the amidst COVID-19 pandemic, Toyota just keeps moving forward through its constant release of new models like the refreshed Wigo and Vios. What we have here is a teaser of the brand’s upcoming crossover named the Urban Cruiser.
As per sources, this new crossover will be available for the Indian market in the meantime. The Urban Cruiser is the result of the Japanese brand’s partnership with Suzuki, Therefore, this upcoming model is set to be a rebadged Vitara or Vitara Brezza.
Its looks remain mysterious for now, as the teaser photo itself showcases the vehicle’s silhouette. Though assumingly, it should carry a number of familiar exterior elements from the Vitara. The interior is also expected to be quite similar to the Vitara, perhaps there will be a few revisions with its material appointments.
As for the engine, sources say that this new Toyota might come with a 1.5-liter K15B engine that’s capable of churning out 103hp and up to 138Nm. The said engine could either be paired with a 5-speed MT transmission or 4-speed AT.
This has been quite a productive collaboration for both brands, as it is not the first time the two have shared each of its distinct offerings, with Suzuki unveiling its own version of the Toyota RAV4 known as the Across, while the Toyota Glanza is actually based on the Suzuki Baleno.
No further details surfaced. We’re going to have to wait for its formal launch as some statements are complete assumptions. Toyota’s local lineup is now filled with a variety of crossovers, from the family-friendly Rush to the larger RAV4, there’s even an upcoming Corolla Cross which is set to launch soon. Given the brand’s already-extensive local lineup, things will surely get more exciting if the Urban Cruiser joins in the family.
