Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) locally assembled flagship passenger car is once again the best selling vehicle from the Japanese company. It is also the country’s top-selling vehicle based on a May 2019 automotive industry performance report from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI).
A total of 12,295 units of the Toyota Vios were sold in 2019. It outsold all available car models in the country, and is the only vehicle from any passenger car or commercial vehicle segment to have sold more than 10,000 units so far this year.
Coming in at a close second is the Toyota Hilux, with 8,723 units. All other Toyota models such as the Fortuner, Innova, Wigo, and Hiace contributed a total of 58,886 units further cementing Toyota’s dominance in the Philippine market.
We think that the passenger car segment is starting to gain momentum, and we're hoping that it would achieve higher growth levels in the coming months. At the forefront of this passenger car segment recovery is the Toyota Vios. Of the total 50,097 passenger cars sold as of May 2019, the Toyota Vios accounts for a quarter of total passenger car sales.
CAMPI also reports that the Toyota Vios’ May 2019 sales are the highest that the brand has had in months, nearing nearly 3,000 units, which was the average number of cars sold per month prior to the TRAIN law implementation in 2018.
In the month of June, Toyota ran a promo that would adorn the Vios with various service packages depending on the model procured. While the promo is no longer available, the offer of a 5-year warranty for the Toyota Vios G and E variants still persists. Two years worth of warranty has been added to the standard length for buyers to enjoy worry-free driving.
With its price ranging from P659,000 to P1,110,000, there is a subcompact for everyone. Whether it will be your first car, spare car, fleet car, company car, or even your last car, the Vios is a prime choice for many because of the – now improved – after sales service that Toyota is typically known for. Couple that with easy to acquire parts, a strong aftermarket, and a loyal fanbase, it is no wonder that this little sedan is the most common unit found in the hands of private and public operators here in the Philippines.
