The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that trucks and trailers will be prohibited from passing through the Nagtahan Flyover starting this February 20, 2021, with the infrastructure left to be open for light vehicles only. This was done in accordance with the recommendation of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Nagtahan Flyover

As per the DPWH, there are several cracks growing out on different parts of the Nagtahan Flyover, specifically on its wing wall, the concrete pedestal of the steel railings, and the circular joint jackets. While no timeline for the repair works was announced, trucks, trailers, and other heavy equipment will not be allowed to pass through the flyover. Access will only be granted to the following vehicles once the repair project is accomplished. By then, only light vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge in order to avoid any further damage or probable incidents.

Given that the Nagtahan flyover is one of the most common routes for trucks going to Manila and beyond, those who are affected can follow the alternate routes released by the MMDA. Those who wish to proceed Southbound may take Earnshaw Street, Legarda Street, Ayala Street, P. Burgos Street to Roxas Boulevard. On the other hand, Northbound truckers may take Quirino Avenue to Roxas Boulevard, or Quirino Avenue Extension to United Nations Avenue to Roxas Boulevard.

As mentioned, the Nagtahan Flyover will undergo a much-needed repair given its condition, plus, that should prevent further damage or any unfortunate accidents in the near future. Hopefully, the construction will start soon and be accomplished in due time, for now, only light vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge starting this February 20 in order to maintain the rigid structure of the flyover.
