When you’re swinging clubs inside the manicured grass fields of golf clubs, the last thing you expect is to win a brand-new car. However, that was the reality at the 20th APT Cup held last November 2023 as two lucky golfers got the keys to one of two brand-new Jetour Ice Cream EVs in a raffle held among participants.
According to Jetour Auto Philippines, the two Ice Cream EV units were originally intended as hole-in-one prizes for a friendly tournament organized among close friends and colleagues of the tournament sponsor, former Department of Transportation Secretary Art Tugade. The organizers pledged to award the car as a prize to all participants in case no one achieved a hole-in-one on the golf course.
When no one managed to score the elusive hole-in-one, Dr. Rolly Cinco and Atty. Steve Pastor emerged as the fortunate winner of the pint-sized EV, with their names selected during the awarding ceremonies. APT Cup officials presented the newly acquired cars to the delighted owners in a straightforward ceremony held at JETOUR Auto Alabang on December 2, 2023.
According to the sponsor, Mr. Art Tugade, the APT Cup is a lighthearted and informal golf tournament involving friends and colleagues of the former head of the transportation department. Embracing a spirit of enjoyment and camaraderie, participants donned basketball jerseys, anime, sci-fi, and superhero costumes while navigating the course with their swings. This year marked the event's return after a seven-year hiatus, drawing 158 players to the game.
As for the prize cars, the Ice Cream EV is a miniature city car from the Chinese car brand, Jetour. Powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a 13.9 kWh capacity, the Jetour Ice Cream is propelled by a 27 hp single electric motor. This battery pack and motor configuration allows the Ice Cream to reach a claimed driving range of 170 km. Charging this small EV takes up to eight hours from a dead battery. The two lucky winners of the Ice Cream EV can now enjoy emissions-free motoring with their new vehicles.
