Another member has been added to Volkswagen’s growing crossover lineup, the 2019 T-Cross. Officially revealed at the event in Amsterdam, the T-Cross is the German brand’s newest, smallest crossover that can go head to head against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Kona, Nissan Juke, among others.
This tiny crossover is based on the marque’s compact MQB-A0 platform. In terms of aesthetics, the T-Cross features a horizontal slate front grille that connects the headlamps, complemented with chrome accents to add a luxurious appeal. The fog lamps are integrated into the black-cladded front bumper and wheel arches.
Moving inside, the five-seater is fitted with standard features such as a radio, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and power window. The space is also good enough for a small crossover with a cargo area of 455L, and when the rear seats are down, it can provide a maximum space of 1,281L.
To be able to compete with other entries in its segment, the higher trim level brags the latest assistance system including lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and an anti-collision with pedestrian detection. For added convenience and safety, the T-Cross comes with multifunctional steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, an adjustable cargo floor, and a storage box placed in the center console. The top variant, on the other hand, gets everything nice like LED headlights, a leather steering wheel, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, a set of 17-inch wheels, and sporty seats in front.
Not satisfied yet, customers can add more goodies including digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry system, and high-beam assist. You can also enhance the entertainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display and Beats sound system.
This cute-sized crossover is run by a standard 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine that can deliver either with either 94 hp or 113 hp. Another engine option is a 1.6L turbodiesel four-cylinder that can u out 94 hp. Also, Volkswagen will later add a gas-fueled 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder with 148 hp in the lineup. Depending on its powertrain, this four-wheel drive SUV will be partnered with either five- or six-speed manual gearbox, or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
