Volkswagen, JAC enter partnership to develop new electric vehicles

Volkswagen has partnered with Chinese automotive brand Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (a.k.a. JAC) to evaluate the possibilities of developing and producing zero-emission, all-electric vehicles for the Chinese market.

The team-up is highlighted by the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which will look into the options of forming a new joint-venture company which would help strengthen Volkswagen and JAC’s long-term ties. The partnership will focus on the research and development, manufacturing, and selling of all-electric vehicles.

Volkswagen Group is looking forward to explore all options to set up a close and mutually beneficial partnership with JAC. We believe this cooperation would not only benefit our two organizations, but would also be of great value to our customers, the environment, and the Chinese society in general," said Volkswagen AG Chairman of the Board of Management Matthias Müller.

On the other hand, JAC Chairman An Jin shared that their company is optimistic that the partnership will result to the Chinese auto industry’s transformation and upgrading. They’re hopeful that this joint project will boost the development of more cost-effective battery-powered electric vehicles for the Chinese market and its new energy vehicle sector.

It’s also worth noting that Volkswagen’s partnership with JAC is part of the German carmaker’s 10-year endeavor of creating more environment-friendly vehicles for the global market.
