The Volkswagen Santana sits as the brand’s most affordable vehicle here in the Philippines, therefore competing with the likes of renowned nameplates such as the Toyota Vios and Honda City. It’s been more than two years since the subcompact sedan was launched alongside some other Chinese-made Volkswagens. Now, the Santana is about to get a much-needed facelift, as recently, the German automaker has announced that an upgraded model is on its way here. Now, up until now, we’re still wondering if as to what changes the updated sedan will carry?
Apparently, the teaser photo doesn’t reveal that much of the car. However, it may seem that the sedan will look almost the same as before given that this is just a facelift. Although, notable changes upfront as well as on the rear might also be seen on the upcoming model. Another addition would have to be a new set of alloy wheels which should complement its refreshed looks.
Like the outside, the cabin might remain almost as it is, with minor tweaks as to its materials and features including the standard reinforcement of a touchscreen infotainment system. Likewise, its simplistic yet elegant cabin will still appeal to many given its ageless and functional layout.
Going through its mechanicals, the Volkswagen Santana might still feature the same 1.5-liter gasoline engine from the outgoing model. Therefore, producing 108 hp and 150 Nm of torque. An unconfirmed report says that the 1.4-liter engine is to be discontinued for the Santana lineup, then again, we’re going to have to wait for its launch before we get proper confirmation of this. Transmission options on this facelifted model shall also include a 6-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Volkswagen Philippines might disclose further details in the coming days. That said, stay tuned and do keep your eyes peeled for some juicy updates.
