Remember the facelifted Nissan GT-R T-Spec and Nismo variants revealed in January during the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon? Well, it looks like we could expect these two facelifted models to reach our shores very soon. How soon? Let’s just say sooner than you think, possibly in the third or fourth quarter of 2023.
Yes, we get it; the GT-R has been in production for quite some time now. 16 years to be exact. To give you an idea of how long that is, we have spanned three generations of the Porsche 911 during that time span, the Honda Civic FD was still available, Coldplay was still banging out Viva La Vida, and the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) was just inaugurated. Let that sink in for a moment.
Anyways, here we are, another year, and we get another GT-R. This time it looks like we could be getting the T-Spec variant with a possibility of the fire-breathing Nismo variant with new front and rear fascias, better aerodynamics, and mechanical updates.
Nissan has revised the 2024 GT-R's front bumper with redesigned upper and lower grilles, with the upper grille now making a tribute to the R34 GT-R with a similar design, and the lower part of the grille has been given a broader and boxier opening for more cooling. This is paired with lowered hexagonal-shaped daytime running lights to round off the look. The rear, on the other hand, gets a bit of a nip and tuck for the T-Spec variant with added trimming in the exhaust area.
The update isn’t all cosmetic either. Nissan claims the updated bodywork increases downforce while maintaining the outgoing model’s 0.26 drag coefficient.
Under the hood of the updated 2024 GT-R, you can find the familiar hand-built 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 with the same 565 hp and 633 Nm of torque paired with the same six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Nissan's ATTESA ET-S all-wheel-drive system that can send power to the front or rear depending on road conditions. It also gets Bilstein DampTronic adjustable shocks, Brembo brakes, and forged RAYS 20-inch wheels for good measure.
Should you want a more powerful and focused car, the Nismo GT-R gets wilder bodywork with tons of carbon fiber in the front and rear of the vehicle, with a swan-neck style wing all pointing towards keeping the car pinned to the road. The 3.8-liter V6 gets more power thanks to new turbochargers directly lifted from the GT3 racecar which now makes 600 hp and 652 Nm of torque. It also gets carbon-ceramic rotors, a carbon roof, and for the first time, front-limited slip differentials.
The T-Spec variants get the standard engine but are paired with carbon-ceramic brakes, wider front fenders, and 20-inch RAYS forged wheels. The interior also gets dark Mori green upholstery, and two classic GT-R colors from the R34 generation with the return of Millenium Jade, and Midnight Purple.
