Wey, a brand under Great Wall Motor, has officially introduced the right-hand drive version of its Gaoshan MPV in Thailand. Locally called the Wey G9 Hi4, the plug-in hybrid model is priced at around 2.349 million Thai Baht, which is roughly P4.3 million. This marks Wey’s entry into the Southeast Asian market.
For comparison, the Wey Gaoshan models sold in China are priced between P2.3 million and P2.9 million, depending on the variant.
The Wey G9 Hi4 measures 5,050 mm long, 1,985 mm wide, and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase. Its size is almost the same as the domestic Gaoshan 7, though the G9 Hi4 is slightly wider.
Inside, the MPV is equipped with several comfort and tech features. These include LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a 14.6-inch central screen, Head-Up Display (HUD), zero-gravity second-row seats, a built-in car refrigerator, and a 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen for passengers.
Under the hood, the G9 Hi4 uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with two electric motors, producing a total of 442 horsepower and 642 Nm of torque. It has a 44.28 kWh battery that gives it a pure electric driving range of 170 kilometers, based on the NEDC standard.
The G9 Hi4 is produced at Great Wall Motor’s Rayong plant in Thailand, which the company acquired from General Motors in 2020. After investing around P56 billion, GWM began local production in 2021, starting with the Haval H6 HEV.
With the launch of the Wey G9 Hi4, Great Wall Motor continues to expand in Southeast Asia, offering more premium hybrid options for the region.
There’s no news yet about whether the Wey G9 Hi4 will be sold in the Philippines, but given the growing number of Chinese car brands entering the local market, it’s possible we’ll see similar models in the future. For now, the MPV is available only in Thailand, where it serves as GWM’s latest move to expand across Southeast Asia.
