You might want to hold on to your wallets since this giant SUV from BYD’s Yangwang sub-brand is priced high in the premium territory. BYD officially introduced the Yangwang U8L in China with a starting price of 1.28 million yuan, which is around P10.5 million. The full-size luxury SUV measures 5,400 mm long, 2,049 mm wide, 1,921 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
It runs on BYD’s e4 platform and uses four electric motors for a total output of 880 kW, equal to 1,180 hp, with 1,520 Nm of torque, which allows it to hit zero to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. Aside from speed, it can do tank turns, crab walks, drive in snow or sand, and even float in water during emergencies. In total, there are 13 driving modes to choose from.
Power comes from a 2.0T engine paired with a 55.53 kWh Blade battery pack. It has a pure electric range of 200 km and a combined driving range of 1,160 km. The SUV also carries a 90-liter fuel tank. With fast charging, the battery can go from 30 percent to 80 percent in 13.5 minutes.
For safety and driver assist, BYD equipped the U8L with its “God’s Eye” A system (DiPilot 600). It uses three lidars, five radars, 14 ultrasonic sensors, and 18 cameras for features such as high-speed and city navigation on autopilot, automatic parking, and remote parking. An infrared vision system lets the car detect moving objects up to 120 m away, and as far as 300 m in dark or foggy conditions.
The interior follows a 2+2+2 six-seat layout. Cabin space is 5.3 cubic meters, second-row knee room reaches 280 mm, and cargo space goes up to 1,115 liters. Privacy windows adjust automatically based on light conditions.
Tech inside includes BYD’s DiLink 300 system powered by a 3nm chip, a 12.8-inch OLED center screen, a 23.6-inch driver display, a co-pilot screen, and an AR head-up display. Rear passengers get a 21.4-inch ceiling entertainment screen.
Luxury features include second-row zero-gravity seats with massage, headrest speakers, leg rests, foldable tables, and wireless charging. The SUV also comes with 32 Dynaudio speakers, a panoramic sunroof, a cooling/heating refrigerator, 13 power outlets, 14 airbags, and 128-color ambient lighting. Noise levels inside the cabin are claimed to stay below 64.6 dB at 120 km/h.
For now, the Yangwang U8L is only available in China, but with more new BYD models coming out, it’s not impossible that we might see it here someday. In the meantime, you can check AutoDeal.com.ph to see the current lineup of BYD cars and even request a quote easily.
