Five years after the debut of its second generation, the MG5 has been given a major facelift, and it looks better than ever. Recently shown off in China, this new model has been tweaked to mirror the sleeker, more polished MG7. One of the biggest changes is up front where the old "mustache" grille has been swapped out for a wider, cleaner-looking grille, which now gives the front of the car a new sharpness, with a set of aggressive headlights and a redesigned bumper to match.
Not only does the updated MG5 look fresher, but it's also slightly longer, with an extra 40 mm added to its length, which stretches the car to a total length of 4,715 mm. The wheelbase stays the same, making sure that the room inside hasn't changed. Around the back, you'll find new, stretched-out taillights and a revamped bumper that adds a bit more style with its body-colored diffuser and noticeable fake vents.
Inside, the MG5 has completely revamped its interior. The outdated asymmetrical design is gone, replaced by a smarter, more user-friendly setup. Now, the interior boasts dual 12.3-inch displays which simplify the dashboard and reduce clutter by cutting down the number of physical buttons. These screens not only look good but make controlling the car's features easier.
Under the hood, the MG5 keeps its 1.5-liter engines. The base model has a naturally aspirated engine that puts out 127 hp, appropriate for everyday driving, and is available with either a manual or a CVT transmission. For those looking for a bit more power, there's a turbocharged version with 179 hp, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that should offer a more spirited drive.
The MG5 is about to be shown for the first time at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 30, and we're all keen to know when it’ll be for sale in the Philippines. We don’t have a date yet, but its good looks and new features are likely to attract lots of interest. While we wait, you can check out the MG cars already for sale in the Philippines and get a quick quote with just a click.
