Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) has confirmed that the 2019 Veloster is now available for indent order and reservation. The sporty hatchback was part of the four vehicles that the South Korean marque launched during the 2018 Manila International Auto Show, alongside the Santa Fe midsize crossover, Kona subcompact crossover, and Ioniq Hybrid.
The confirmation came when we got a promo of the all-new model from a dealer, which HARI also confirmed to be available starting this August. With that, you’ll more likely see one rolling off the streets of the Metro sooner than later.
The Veloster is one of the most exciting nameplates in Hyundai Philippines’ lineup. With its unconventional exterior design, upmarket cabin amenities, and the 201-hp 1.6L turbocharged engine with dual-clutch transmission, it’s one compact hatchback that will surely put a smile on your face. We drove one before, and we couldn’t be any more excited to get our hands on the new one.
As it is a next-generation model, the 2019 Veloster has changed drastically from the previous model. Sure, the unorthodox four-door layout and huge twin exhaust are still there, but the front and rear fascia has morphed from curvy lines to edgy features for a bold, aggressive look. Completing the look is the redesigned 18-inch alloys and LED headlights with daytime running lights.
Inside, the second-generation Veloster ironically drops the V-shaped dashboard for a more conventional horizontal layout. Unconventional, however, is the floating seven-inch touchscreen head unit and the driver-centric cockpit accentuated by red trimmings.
Let’s get to the exciting part. Under the 2019 Veloster’s hood is a turbocharged 1.6L Gamma engine, capable of producing 201 hp and 265 Nm of torque. It sends this figures to the front wheel via a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Halting duties is taken care of front and rear discs. For safety and convenience, it’s equipped with dual front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as ABS, rear parking cameras and sensors, and immobilizer.
The 2019 Veloster has a price tag of P1,798,000. A little steep, though, but this car is not your usual hatchback. Now, that the Veloster is up for sale already, the only model left to be sold is the Ioniq Hybrid. This could reinforce our country’s baby steps towards electrification, and definitely worth waiting for.
