The 2019 Hyundai Tucson is relatively fast, powerful, and exudes confidence on every drive. Even better, it has a highly-notable fuel economy figure and that’s definitely a huge plus for modern car buyers. Well, it’s a diesel, and you really can’t expect anything less from diesel-fed cars when it comes to fuel efficiency.
But, there is no perfect car and as I’ve mentioned in my general review, the Tucson fell a bit short when it comes to the things it offers in terms of technology and safety. It’s satisfactory, nonetheless, if not for the car’s P1,835,000 price tag. Guess fuel-efficient diesel technology doesn’t come cheap.
Here’s a closer look at the top-of-the-line Tucson’s technology and safety features.
High-tech, where it matters
When I say it fell a bit short, that doesn’t mean that you’re looking at a stone-aged Tucson. You aren’t. But in relation to its price tag, some people might find it lacking.
For instance, the Tucson doesn’t come with LEDs; it only has projector halogens, albeit, with automatic on/off and levelizer. The driver is also given a power-adjustable seat and other conveniences like auto-folding side mirrors, speed-sensing door locks, and auto up/down window. What you’ll miss, however, are features like automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and cruise control – things you would likely find in similarly priced crossovers.
The 2019 Tucson’s redeeming factor would be its head unit. Hands down, it’s one of the best-looking touchscreen displays out there, showered with crisp colors and intuitive controls. Even better, it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is something that this generation of smartphone users would absolutely adore. Handsfree calls are also loud and clear, while the speakers sound decent.
I just wish there are more USB ports for charging, as there’s only one port for the entire car. There are two 12-V sockets, though, found in the front and at the trunk area, so you might want to buy an accessory charger if you’re eyeing this car. Then there’s the rearview camera with guidelines and sensors – both work like a charm.
Average safety
You won’t be finding special high-technology safety features inside the 2019 Tucson. It does come standard with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), and Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC). That’s about it. There’s also ISOFIX child seat anchors and seatbelt reminder, but the latter’s exclusive for the driver. Although, Hyundai promises rigidity of its body with the usage of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) and hot-stamping process.
For security, it has an immobilizer and an alarm.
