Lynk & Co’s lineup in the Philippines has been, for the most part, great all around. We’ve tested the 06, the 01 PHEV, and the 05, and we found that they’re all great cars to drive and ride in. The next vehicle from Lynk & Co we’re reviewing is the 02 EV, one of its recent models to come out, and on paper, it’s a promising car.
However, a promising spec sheet is only half the battle; a car also has to drive well in the real world. To see if the Lynk & Co 02 has the substance to go with its dazzling style, we spent some time getting to know it on the road.

Power, Range, and Charging
Before we get to anything else, let’s look at the 02’s performance figures. According to Lynk & Co, the 02 EV has a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 268 hp and 343 Nm of torque. Powering the motor is a 66 kWh battery, which Lynk & Co says can take the 02 EV up to 435 km on a single charge. The performance figures are pretty huge for a compact crossover, but more on that later.
Speaking of charging, the 02 EV supports AC charging of up to 11 kW and DC fast charging of up to 150 kW, which can bring the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. The 02 EV uses Type 2 and CCS2 charging standards for AC and DC charging, respectively.
Exterior
The exterior of the 02 EV is definitely born from Lynk & Co’s design philosophy, but it looks more modern and sharper in comparison to, say, the 06, and even the 05. The slim claw-like DRLs on the front fascia are slimmer compared to earlier Lynk & Co models, giving it a more futuristic and rather aggressive look despite the smooth, flowing curves of the front bumper.
Over at the rear, it’s also the same story. Slim, wrap-around taillights are the highlight of the 02 EV’s rear end. Aside from being a lighting element, the trim on which the lights are attached also serves as a ducktail rear spoiler, tapering neatly where the rear window ends.
The wheels are where we think other Lynk & Co models have an edge over the 02. The aluminum alloy wheels on the 02 EV aren’t unattractive by any means, but they’re not particularly striking either. The geometric pattern, combined with the two-tone finish and textured accents, makes the design look a bit too busy. That said, uninspiring wheels aside, we still appreciate the 02’s blend of sportiness and futuristic styling.
Cargo Space
Open the rear door, and the Lynk & Co 02’s cargo hold reveals 375 liters of space. Decent numbers, yes, but they come with a caveat. The sloping rear window of the 02 EV we praised earlier does compromise cargo room slightly; as such, if you’re planning to load a lot of items in the back, the tonneau cover will have to come off. If you don’t need the rear seats, folding them down nearly doubles the space, giving you enough room for two balikbayan boxes and some extra space for overnight luggage.
If that isn’t enough, there are extra compartments found underneath the cargo hold’s floor, and of course, the front trunk.
Interior
Clean and simple is the theme of the 02 EV’s exterior, and inside, it’s much the same. Space inside is surprisingly generous, aided by a thoughtful layout and a panoramic sunroof that floods the cabin with light, making both front and rear passengers feel open and airy. Because the seats are quite low, passengers in the second row will not be left wanting for space, even if the front passengers kick back and relax.
Amenities in the second row include a pair of charging ports, a single parcel hook in the center, bottle holders on both doors, and cup holders on the center armrest. Because the Lynk & Co 02 shares some features with Volvo cars, the air vents are not located in the center console; they’re actually positioned on the door pillars, which is a thoughtful touch. Another feature we liked is that while buttons operate the rear doors, safety systems are built into the bottom of the bottle holder so the doors can still be opened during an emergency.
Up front, at the business end of the 02, is where you’ll find most of its features. While many of the materials used in the interior are made from recycled products, the cabin doesn’t feel cheap or low-rent; everything feels solid and pleasant to the touch, including the microfiber used for the seats. The attention to detail extends to soft-touch surfaces and well-finished panels, giving the cabin an overall sense of quality that belies its price point.
Technology and Safety
At the center of the 02 EV’s interior is a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. This large screen essentially serves as the command and control center of the entire car, which, while it may sound exciting at first glance, it also means there are no physical buttons for you to use to control functions like the hazard lights, air-conditioning, volume, and even the drive modes. The minimalist design of the interior makes the 02 a delight to be in, but the lack of physical buttons for controls also means you have to rummage through the infotainment system can get cumbersome very quickly.
On a better note, the 02 EV is packed with driver-assistance and protective features. Its 16-point Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, highway assist, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert, and front/rear collision warnings. Emergency systems like auto emergency braking, evasive maneuver assist, and traffic jam assist give an extra layer of confidence when out on the road. Standard safety systems include anti-lock brakes, traction and stability control, hill hold control, and a full complement of airbags covering driver, passenger, side, curtain, and center protection. Lastly, 360-degree cameras plus front and rear sensors make parking and maneuvering tight spots easier.
Driving Performance
Remember the performance figures we mentioned earlier? Well, the 268 hp and 343 Nm have to lug around nearly two tons of weight thanks to the batteries. Despite the heft, the 02 EV is no slouch. A cheeky press of the accelerator pedal and you’ll be sent back to the seats with the electric motors providing instant torque. Keep the pedal pinned, and the 02 EV will get up to a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Lynk & Co says that the 02 EV’s zero to 100 time measures in at 5.5 seconds; on that, we believe them.
Speed isn’t the only thing going for the 02; its ride comfort is equally impressive. The suspension handles bumps and ruts with ease, and coupled with a well-built cabin, the 02 EV feels serene on the road. The steering also deserves praise: it’s well-weighted and communicates road feedback effectively. Speaking of weight, the 02 EV doesn’t feel as light as some modern EVs, but it’s not heavy or cumbersome either. As Captain America might put it in a fistfight, driving the 02 EV is something you can do all day.
Price and Verdict
All things considered, aside from an ultra-centralized control center and a not-so-spacious cargo hold, the Lynk & Co 02 EV is a fantastic car to drive. The only remaining question is whether it’s worth owning. The 02 EV starts at P1,788,000 and tops out at P1,988,000 for the High Trim variant. While the price may make some pause, the 02 EV makes a strong case for itself compared to other premium electric crossovers—take Tesla, for example, whose models start well above the P2 million mark. Even at the more affordable end of the spectrum, the 02 EV’s dynamic driving characteristics give it an edge over other EVs available in the country.
For an electric crossover that combines power, solid build quality, and head-turning looks, the experience the 02 EV delivers justifies its price tag. To see what we mean firsthand, check out the 02 EV on AutoDeal.com.ph and book a test drive with authorized Lynk & Co agents today.
