P 2,448,000 – 2,648,000Modern and Brawny - the all-new Kia Sorento is a capable SUV for a family of 7 who's looking for value, quality, and performance.
In this episode of Behind the Wheel, Caco looks at Kia’s midsize crossover — not SUV. With the 2019 Kia Sorento, it leaves us wanting for more competition in its segment because as Caco explains, “It is an absolute pleasure to drive”.
Now under the Ayala Corporation (AC), the 2019 Kia Sorento is company's answer to conquering the midsize crossover segment. Now on it’s 3rd generation and with a refresh for 2019, this award-winning mid-size crossover is poised to tick all the right boxes on what a “soft-roader” should be and more.
New for the 2019 model, the Kia Sorento returns with a refresh that includes a few updates to its exterior. A trifecta headlamp and LED DRL setup is presented alongside a slightly redesigned front end. Kia’s Tiger-nose grille ensures that the Kia Sorento arrives with presence. The Kia Sorento maintains it’s sleek yet macho side profile. Ample ground clearance of 185mm the vehicle’s monocoque chassis rides high. Also worth mentioning is that the model rolls on 18 inch alloy wheels which accompany it’s modern appearance. On the rear, tail lamps that look straight out of a sci-fi film and is somewhat shaped like that of a Kia Carnival’s.
The 2019 Kia Sorento does not fall short on features either. With 320 litres of trunk space on the rear pushing up to over 1000 litres with the 3rd row seats folded in, it does come with enough to please a member of the royal family – namely the queen. While the interior is carried over from the previous generation, it offers a hardy setup ensuring a no frills driving experience. With leather clad power seats and ample leg-room at the rear row seats, the Sorento offers maximum comfort and convenience without compromise of space.
Beating at its heart is a 2.2L diesel engine pushing and impressive 197hp and 441 Nm of torque. Despite the car’s size, the Sorento feels light and agile. A smooth and comfortable ride awaits the passengers whether in the front, where Vincent sleeps and Caco drives, or at the middle, where you can experience first class space like that of a limousine – if you’re Caco sized probably.
At P2,195,000 for the 4x4 variant, it is the cheapest in its class and offers outstanding performance and handsome looks for a lower price point. This segment needs more selections for consumers, and here we have a worthy entry from Kia Philippines.
