KG Mobility Musso
P 1,180,000 – 1,650,000This South Korean pickup truck was not named Musso (rhinoceros) for no reason; be its guest and find out why.
Here is a pickup truck that will probably shock you once you step inside the interior. It will shock you even more once you get out and drive it. The 2019 SsangYong Musso is the midsize pickup truck offering from a brand that is looking to make a name for itself once again in the Philippines. In this episode of Behind the Wheel, Caco takes the Korean truck out of its resting place and into the wilds of Metro Manila and beyond.
Featuring an exterior that is elegant and more streamlined than trucks of old, the Musso is smooth and muscular. It’s not as rugged as one would think, a character that is carried over to the interior and ride quality.
Stepping into the interior reveals two thrones clad in leather, one for the driver and one for the passenger. What’s also great are the ventilated seats upfront, to help the two front occupants beat the heat in the Philippines. Not only are the seats pretty cool, but so are the rest of the goodies inside which include an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system.
The ride quality is smooth, and we mean it. Laying on top of fully independent suspension setups, the front and rear wheels glide smoothly over the harsh pavements of Metro Manila. The wheels are an 18-inch set that allows the Musso to clear 218 millimeters of any dirt debris or hump that you may encounter in your drive.
Power is supplied by a 2.2L diesel engine, which you can barely hear thanks to the superb sound insulation. The mill produces 179 hp and 420 Nm of torque, enough to compete with even the most powerful of pickup trucks in the market today. All that torque and horsepower is fed through a six-speed automatic transmission that allows smooth shifting in any situation.
The Musso is available now from SsangYong Philippines. It comes at a time where pickup trucks are a prime vehicle to invest in because of its lower price point. This unit costs P1,495,000, and for the features, it’s quite a bargain.
