Ever wondered which of today’s vehicles has the best cabin? While the answer boils down to personal preference, here’s what long-time global automotive information hub Ward’s Auto has to say as they recently published their 2015 Best Interior winners.
Some vehicles in the list are unavailable in the Philippines like the BMW i3, Ford F-150 King Ranch, GMC Canyon SLT, and Jeep Renegade Limited. But the other 6 have their local counterparts. This includes the Chrysler 300 C Platinum, Honda Fit (locally known as the Honda Jazz), Kia Sedona (aka Kia Grand Carnival), Mazda 6 Grand Touring, Mercedes-Benz C400, and the Nissan Murano.
The Chrysler 300 C’s interior is roomy and crafted to reflect the brand’s long history of luxury and sophistication. Highlighted in the Ward’s Auto list is its leather-wrapped cabin and a gauge cluster, which glows with a blue backlight, day and night.
The Honda Jazz’ inclusion sparked a new down-to-earth feel to what would traditionally be a list, dominated by more expensive vehicles. The cabin has a fresh sporty feel and offers more rear legroom, thanks to the longer wheelbase. Ward’s Auto also particularly liked the configurable ULT seats (which stands for Ultra Long Tall) that presents an innovative way of increasing cargo space.
Recently unveiled at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), the all-new Kia Grand Carnival also made it into the list as it provides passengers comfort, style, flexibility, and techy features. This made Ward’s Auto refer to it as the “ultimate road tripper.”
The Mazda 6’s latest refresh gets interior upgrades such as a new infotainment system and active driving (heads-up) display. This complements its edgy design, premium materials, and a cabin feel that’s almost at par with some luxury sports sedans.
Tagged as the most expensive car in this year’s Ward’s Auto list, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class’ interior has many features from the more upscale S-Class, but at less than half the price.
Finally, the Nissan Murano capped off the list with its elegant and contemporary interior that’s uncommon in midsize SUVs.
This year’s Ward’s Auto 10 Best Interiors list is quite diverse, from the luxurious to the affordable. So, how did these vehicles made it into the list? A huge percentage of the scoring was all about aesthetics. Details like color schemes, how the interior overall design matches or compliments the exterior styling, the overall harmony of the interior elements, and more.
But these vehicles weren’t listed by just mere looks and feel. The criteria of Ward’s Auto also included excellence in safety, value, fit and finish, and effectiveness of vehicle-to-driver information, based on the human-machine interface’s idea of user-friendliness.
