The 2016 Rav4 receives a youthful facelift with added safety features

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) closed the year with the launch of the new 2016 RAV4. It now sports a refreshed look, enhanced features, and 4 new variants to cater to its soon-to-be owners.

A More Aggressive Exterior Design

Making its 1st appearance way back in 1997, Toyota’s Rav4 nameplate, which denotes Recreational, Active, Vehicle, and the number 4 for its 4x4 segment, has been a household name in the local automotive market.

Although the familiar SUV shape is still identifiable with the new Rav4, a new exterior design which, according to Toyota, boasts a “refreshing look” and a “youthful vibe,” sets it apart from the 2015 version.

The new Rav4 now features a meaner and slimmer grill which complements the catchy reworked headlights and more prominent bumper design. Toyota uses a striking set of 17-inch aluminum wheels with low resistance tires as the vehicle’s shoes.

Daytime running lights, headlamp levelling, and LED headlamps are, however, only available for the 4x2 Premium and 4x4 Premium variants. For the rear end, nothing much has changed except for the bumper and the tail lights.

Alongside with the exterior facelift, Toyota also introduces four new colors - Blue Metallic, Orange, Metallic, Dark Red Mica Metallic and Bronze Metallic. Standard colors such as Silver Metallic, Gray Metallic, Black Mica and a White Pearl are still available but buyers will need to add PHP15, 000.00 on top of the total contract price of their chosen Rav4 variant.

Engine and Features

The new Rav4, just like its 2015 predecessor, comes with a 2.5‐liter, Dual Variable valve Timing‐intelligent (Dual VVT‐I) engine. According to Toyota’s published performance rating for the 2015 model, this type of engine will provide you with 180 hp maximum output and 233 Nm of torque. As for the transmission, Toyota equips the 2016 Rav4 with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Aside from the facelift, the 2016 Rav4 comes with additional safety features such as the Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and a Hill‐Climb Assist Control (HAC). All of which are designed to provide drivers with a more exciting and comfortable driving experience on different terrains.  Toyota also equips knee airbags in addition to the standard front, side and curtain airbags.

To satisfy Toyota’s varying needs, desires, and budget of their target market, the 2016 Rav4 is available in four variants - the 4x2 Active, the 4x2 Active+, the 4x2 Premium and the 4x4 Premium.

The 4x4 Premium is the most expensive with P2,066,000 price tag while the 4x2 Active is the most affordable with P1,263,000. As for the 4x2 Active+ and the 4x2 Premium, they are priced at P1,441,000 and P1,863,000 respectively.
