Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) gives the Vios subcompact sedan a new engine which will be paired with a CVT transmission. The company said that the new upgrades will make its best-selling nameplate even more fuel-efficient than the previous model.
With that in mind, the 2016 Vios will now have a 4-cylinder Dual VVT-I DOHC gasoline engine in either 1.3L or 1.5L displacements. Its previous 4-speed automatic transmission is now replaced with a continuously variable transmission with a 7-speed sequential shift. On the other hand, the manual variants will still come with a 5-speed stick shift.
The new 1.3L engine is capable to produce 98 hp and 123 Nm of torque which is 8 hp and 1 Nm of torque more powerful than the previous powerplant. Meanwhile, the new 1.5L engine can squeeze out 106 hp and 140 Nm of torque which is slightly less than its predecessor.
Aside from the new engine and transmission, the new Vios will also have 2 new exterior paint; ‘Alumina Jade Metallic’ for the 1.5 G and 1.3 E variants while the ‘Blackish Red Mica’ will be exclusive to the 1.3 E.
Pricing for the 2016 Vios will start as low as P599,000 for the 1.3L Base variant to P991,000 for the top-of-the-line 1.5L TRD WP variant.
