2017 BMW 5 Series

Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), the official distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippines, introduced the all-new 5 Series. Dubbed as the ‘Ultimate Sports-Business Machine,’ the 5 Series features a sporty, aggressive, and sleek design.

It is available in 3 variants, equipped with diesel engines. The 2017 5 Series is offered with the following models: 520d Luxury, 520d M Sport Package, and the top-of-the-line 530d.

The 520d Luxury and M Sport Package variants are powered by a 2.0L TwinPower turbodiesel that delivers 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The 520d is mated to an 8-speed ‘Steptronic’ automatic transmission but you do have to take note that the M Sport Package comes with paddle shifters.

The top-of-the-line 530d comes with a 3.0L TwinPower turbodiesel that produces 265 hp and 620 Nm of torque. Shifting is done via an 8-speed ‘Steptronic’ automatic transmission. Exterior-wise, BMW’s all-new executive mid-sized sedan looks more striking as compared to its predecessor. It has a larger kidney grille, a revamped front bumper, and new adaptive LED headlights. The rear also has its own share of design changes compared to the model that it will replace. (Note: exterior photos shown below are the BMW 520d M Sport)

It is fitted with slimmer taillights, a more angular bumper, and restyled tailpipes that are now symmetrically arranged on either side.  As a whole, we can’t help but notice that the 5’s exterior design share similarities to its bigger sibling, the 7 Series. Family ties seem to be strong don’t you think?

A driver-oriented dashboard and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display greet you upon entering the cabin. The 3-spoke steering wheel is integrated with audio and phone controls while Dakota leather upholstery comes as standard. The range-topping 530d comes with Nappa leather.

If you’re the one who needs space, BMW says the rear knee room is 18mm longer than its predecessor and the middle seat is wider to accommodate up to 3 adult passengers at the back.

In addition, the 2017 5 Series is integrated with the latest version of the BMW iDrive system – the Interface Design (ID) 6, which is considered to be the “most intuitive automotive user interfaces.” It controls the functions found at the 10.25-inch LED touch display with navigation system. The iDrive system also has the BMW Gesture Control that was first introduced with the 7 Series.

Pricing for the 2017 5 Series are as follows: 520d Luxury (P4,590,000), 520d M Sport (P4,990,000), and 530d Luxury (P6,390,000).
