Honda has officially revealed the production version of the 2017 Civic Hatchback in the US. According to the Japanese automaker, it will be available with a turbocharged powertrain and a manual transmission.
The new Civic Hatchback is built on the same platform as the 10th generation Civic Sedan and Coupe and will be available in 5 trims: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring. Honda also shared that it will be manufactured at its Swindon, UK plant.
The exterior of the vehicle resembles the aggressive and sharp styling of the concept version which was first introduced last March during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
Up front, the Civic Hatchback is fitted with sweptback headlights, honeycomb-shaped grille, a sculpted hood, and a prominent bumper. Turing at the side, the vehicle is characterized by sharp character lines, a sloping roofline, and distinctive wheels. Meanwhile, the rear gets C-shaped taillights, a large bumper, a shark fin antenna, and a spoiler. Of note, the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring variant has a high-flow center-mounted exhaust.
Honda added that the Civic Hatchback comes with 123 cubic feet of interior and cargo capacity. With this, the Japanese brand claims that the vehicle features best-in-class rear legroom and cargo volume.
Technology-wise, Honda’s newest hatch is equipped with safety and driver-assist tech which includes Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKSA), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), among others. Moreover, the Civic Hatchback’s touchscreen is integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2017 Civic Hatchback is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, however it comes with two power ratings. The LX, EX, and EX-L variants deliver 174 hp and 219 Nm of torque while the Sport and Sport Touring trims produce 180 hp and 219 Nm. The LX, EX, and Sport will come with a 6-speed manual transmission while the other Civic Hatchbacks will be mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Locally, the 10th generation Civic Sedan is already available in the market. It was launched by Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. last April 2016 and is offered in 2 variants: the 1.8 E and the 1.5 RS Turbo.
