Debuted at this year’s Chicago Auto Show (CAS) is the 2018 Subaru Legacy, sporting more upgraded features and quieter road performance.
Subaru seems a little more active in introducing new models as it welcomes 2017. Earlier this January, Subaru debuted the all-new Impreza in Singapore. Now, the midsize sedan Legacy gets its updated model.
With wider and lower grille and C-shaped headlights, the midsize sedan is now sportier. It’s the 2 new body colors, Magnetite Gray Metallic and Crimson Red Pearl, that accentuate the new Legacy more. The rear, on the other hand, conveys a wider and lower stance despite the same width dimension.
While there were only few changes on its exterior, tweaks inside its cabin are the real deal here. New premium materials fill the cabin, including trims, silver-color bezels, real stitching on the dash and seats, redesigned steering wheel, and high-gloss black trim on the door panels. Furthermore, a new gray interior is now available aside from the black and ivory finishes.
Additionally, the 2018 Legacy’s engine noise is reduced through the use of an ultra-short-pitch chain, while adjustments on engine timing reduce noise on powertrain. On top of that, the quieter experience is even more guaranteed, thanks to the front windows’ new sound-insulating inner film glass.
However, everything inside a car links together to what’s under the hood. Powering the 2018 Subaru Legacy 2.5i is the 2.5 L 4-cylinder Boxer engine (175 hp/235 Nm), while the 3.6R variant gets the 3.6 L 6-cylinder Boxer engine (256 hp/334 Nm). Both engines are paired with continuously variable transmission (CVT), with retuned engine computers (ECU) for more responsive and seamless acceleration.
The 2018 Subaru Legacy will be available in 4 trims in the US: Standard, Premium, and Sport for the 2.5i variant, while the Limited trim comes with either the 2.5 L or 3.6 L engine.
The 2018 Subaru Legacy will hit the market around June to August. Meanwhile, there aren’t any reports yet from Subaru Philippines about when it will arrive on local shores.
