According to the Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the Aussie versions of the Audi Q7, Honda HR-V, and the all-new 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (locally known as the Montero Sport) all received a 5-star safety ratings in a recent test to back them up.
With ever increasing numbers of people buying SUVs it’s good to see more vehicles in that category obtaining a five star result so that consumers have greater choice when it comes to buying a safer vehicle," said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer James Goodwin.
ANCAP’s battery of tests includes frontal and side-impact collisions with emphasis on adult occupant, child occupant, and pedestrian protection. Also considered are each vehicle’s passive and active safety aids that contribute to the overall safety rating.
In this test, the Audi Q7’s 3.0L bested a score of 36.1/38 points for the adult occupant protection. In relation to this, its full-frontal collision protection and whiplash protection had a score of 7.42/8 points and a “Good” remark. It also scored 43.4/49 points in child safety and 25.4/36 points in pedestrian protection.
Within the Audi Q7’s stylish German-engineered body is an assortment of standard safety features that include dual front, side, chest, and curtain airbags as well as Electronic Brake-force distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).
As for the Honda HR-V, it managed to grab 36.21/37 points in overall safety. Its frontal-offset collision protection and side-impact protection also showed high scores at 15.21/16 points and 16/16 points respectively. ANCAP also gave a “Good” remark for its whiplash protection and an “Acceptable” remark on its pedestrian protection.
Honda fitted the HR-V with standard safety features like dual front, side, and curtain airbags. It also has ESC, EBD, EBA, ABS, and Hill Launch Assist.
Lastly for the all-new Mitsubishi Montero Sport, ANCAP used data from its pickup counterpart, the Mitsubishi Strada. It charted 36.22/37 points in overall safety. With regards to this, it managed to score 15.22/16 points in frontal-offset collision protection and 16/16 points in side-impact protection. For its whiplash protection and pedestrian safety, ANCAP stamped it with a “Good” and “Acceptable” remark respectively.
Across all variants of the Montero Sport, standard safety features like dual front, side, driver knee, and curtain airbags can be found. It also carries ESC, EBA, and ABS with EBD.
