Car Awards Group, Inc. to commence 2016 testing season

The annual testing season of the Car Awards Group, Inc. (CAGI) will officially kick off on October 18, 2016 at the Manila Polo Club. Members of the group are to attend the event, as well as distinguished guests such as sponsors, car manufacturers, and distributors.

CAGI is the longest-running organization of motoring journalist in the country. Since its inception in 2004, it has been holding annual test fests where it upholds the most-coveted Car of the Year – Philippines (COTY-P) and Truck of the Year – Philippines (TOTY-P) awards.

All vehicles in consideration are classified and sorted according to their class and segment before they go through qualitative and quantitative testing. The former rates the vehicles in consumer’s point of view using predetermined metrics such as ride, fit, and feel. AutoDeal has been part of the qualitative testers since last year. On the other hand, the latter uses GPS-based hardware to measure performance attributes such as acceleration, braking, and handling.

To increase the ante this year, CAGI added 2 brand-new VBOX Sport data loggers to its equipment for quantitative testing. The VBOX is an internationally acclaimed data acquisition system that uses high-performance GPS receivers. It has the capability to measure speed, distance, acceleration, braking distance, heading, slip angle, lap times, position, cornering forces, and more with high accuracy.

CAGI is expecting around 60 new or significantly upgraded vehicles to join this year’s test fest. The first day of testing will be held on October 25, 2016 at Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, with succeeding dates to be announced soon.

Eligible for consideration this year are vehicles launched in the PH market from October 2015 to November 2016. This timeframe is set yearly, to ensure that only the latest vehicles are tested, and the buying public is able to make informed decisions when making their purchases,” said CAGI president Robby Consunji.

Last year, CAGI awarded the Mazda 2 Sedan SkyActiv R as the COTY-P, while the TOTY-P was given to the Nissan NP300 Navara 4x2.
