The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will again provide the public, both commuters and motorists, with assistance through its 'Lakbay Alalay' program.
In preparation for Holy Week, DPWH secretary Mark Villar has already ordered the reactivation of the assistance program to take effect from April 10 to 17. Villar also said that motorists assistance teams will be deployed to provide 24-hour assistance and emergency response.
DPWH added that national roads were evaluated by the agency to ensure that there are reflectorized pavement markings and readable kilometer signs. Moreover, on-going road constructions were visited by the DPWH’s maintenance team to inspect if it has proper warning signs.
Same in the southern region, traffic advisories with suggested alternate routes and bypass areas were already installed. DPWH Region 5 Director Danilo E. Versola said that 31 motorist assistance centers will be on post along various areas in the Bicol region. This includes 12 provinces in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon, as well as in 19 provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate.
The special program from DPWH is a cooperative effort with the Philippine National Police, Land Transportation Office, and local government units.
