DPWH reactivates ‘Lakbay Alalay’ program in preparation for All Saints’ Day

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has cleared all national highways, especially the ones leading to public and private cemeteries, in preparation for All Saints’ Day.

This is to ensure the safety of the large amount of motorists expected to clog all major roads during the long weekend.

As of October 14, DPWH Regional Offices (ROs) together with District Engineering Offices (DEOs) have already coordinated a number of highway routine maintenance activities. This includes re-gravelling roads, bridges, shoulders, drainages, and vegetation control maintenance, which includes traffic control – particularly traffic advisories or the provision of proper informative and regulatory warning signs.

Aside from this, DPWH ROs and DEOs will also reactivate their motorist assistance program known as “Lakbay Alalay.” This will become effective starting 5:00 p.m. this October 28, 2016 until 12:00 p.m. of November 2, 2016. DPWH will also deploy hundreds of “Lakbay Alalay” teams that will be posted 24/7, along strategic locations nationwide.

These teams will coordinate with Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and local government unit officials in case they require assistance from maintenance teams of DPWH and vice versa.

Furthermore, DPWH will coordinate with ongoing roadwork contractors to guarantee proper scheduling of road works and necessary traffic advisory installations.
