Lewis Hamilton dominated the 2017 Formula 1 (F1) British Grand Prix as he led the race from start to finish. With this, Hamilton registered his 5th British Grand Prix win, matching legendary drivers Jim Clark and Alain Prost.

Hamilton of Mercedes-AMG Petronas cruised to victory after he secured the lead at turn 1. Scuderia-Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen managed to defend 2nd place from his teammate Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

The other Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Valtteri Bottas had to start the race down in 9th after he received a 5-place grid penalty for an unscheduled gearbox replacement. Despite this, the Finn managed to climb up the order and eventually passed Vettel to steal 3rd place. However, Bottas wasn’t satisfied yet as he challenged Raikkonen to claim 2nd place.

Raikkonen tried his best to defend his position despite having tire issues but the persistent Bottas snatched 2nd place with just 2 laps to go. The turn of events saw Bottas inherit 2nd place while Raikkonen salvaged 3rd. Vettel, on the other hand, finished in 7th after having the same tire problems.

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen shrugged of all the bad luck from the Austrian Grand Prix to finish just outside the podium in 4th. The other Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo started the race at the back of the grid and worked his way up for an impressive 5th place finish. The fans awarded the Aussie with ’driver-of-the-day’ honors for his performance.

Renault’s Nico Hulkenburg held onto his starting position despite all the drama ahead to finish 6th. His teammate Jolyon Palmer, who has been rumored to be replaced soon, failed to start the race due to a hydraulic failure on his car.

Meanwhile, Force India’s Esteban Ocon finished ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez in 8th and 9th, respectively. Williams’ Felipe Massa rounds up the top 10 finishers.

McLaren-Honda’s sole finisher Stoffel Vandoorne had an underwhelming performance to finish down in 11th. Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean took 12th and 13th, respectively.

Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson finished in 14th after tapping Grosjean on lap 46. Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat received a drive-through penalty for “rejoining the race unsafely” and causing a collision with his teammate Carlos Sainz on the opening lap. The Russian was able to complete the race in 15th, while Sainz had to retire due to heavy damage on his car.

William’s Lance Stroll managed to cross the line in 16th despite suffering from ‘aero-loss’ late in the race. Sauber’s Pascal Wehrlein completed the racers who crossed the finish line down in 17th place.

Hamilton’s win at the British Grand Prix cuts Vettel’s championship lead down to 1 point. Will we see a new championship leader in Hungary this July 30, 2017?
