Mitsubishi Xpander facelift Indonesia

The Mitsubishi Xpander has a love-it-or-hate-it design language, which is also one of the reasons why it’s so popular. It’s a capable car that lets you ferry around seven people in a comfortable and compact form factor.

Over in Malaysia, photos have surfaced that feature the pre-production model of a facelifted Xpander. The photos were posted on a Malaysian Facebook page called Tekan Minyak on January 14, 2020. The post indicates that the vehicles were being inspected by Mitsubishi quality control staff at the HICOM automotive assembly plant. The plant is located in the Pekan district in Pahang, Malaysia. Further information from the post states that the final version of the facelift is set to enter production by June of 2020 for the Indonesian market.

The facelifted vehicle now looks a bit closer to its bigger brother the Montero Sport. At first glance, it seems as if nothing on the vehicle has changed but a closer look at it reveals that the changes are substantial.

The grille has been updated and now sports a chiseled two-layer design. It replaces the older horizontal three-split layout. The lower bumper has also gotten a bit of a change. It now comes in black instead of being color-keyed. The front headlights get a redesign, too. Instead of having two sections within the headlight housing, it now has three. Moreover, gone are the multi-reflectors as LEDs seem to have replaced them. The vehicle still carries the same LED daytime running lights as before.

Power-wise, the vehicle should still retain the same engine and transmission. This means that the Xpander will still be powered by a 1.5-liter engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. There is no news yet if Mitsubishi Philippines has plans to bring in the production version of the facelifted model.
