Genesis highlights its G90 flagship luxury sedan for 2017

Korean automaker Hyundai stepped up their game by creating a new luxury brand called Genesis to enter the upscale market. Serving as its flagship is the G90, a large sedan that boasts elegant styling, commendable performance, and innovations on safety.

The exterior of this 4-seater premium luxury sedan presents an elegantly-styled fascia with a prominent grille with chrome slits and outline. On both sides of the grille are sharp-looking full-LED headlights that are angled up and out to give the car a wider appearance up front. Just below the headlights are a set of LED daytime running lights for added visibility on the road at all times.

In profile, the G90’s length is highlighted by a character line that runs from the tip of the headlights to the edge of the tail lights. Moreover, the window frames are outlined with chrome strips for that added sense of elegance. Additional strips of chrome are placed just below the doors to command attention towards its long wheelbase and 19-inch alloy wheels. Completing the G90’s exterior styling is its rear portion that displays a set of tail lights that hug the quarter panels. Below these is a sculpted bumper that houses a couple of huge chromed tailpipes.

Inside the G90 are 4 seats wrapped in premium leather material. It also has glossy wood trims strategically-placed on the door panels, across the dash, along the front and rear center consoles, and behind the front seat backrests to accentuate the interior motif. In detail, various controls for the infotainment, air conditioning, and more are laid out within easy reach of the front and rear occupants.

But the best part about the cabin is the rear occupant space, thanks to the G90’s long wheelbase. According to Genesis, the G90’s legroom measures at 1176 mm, which they say is “superior” compared to its competitors.

When it comes to safety, the 2017 Genesis G90 offers an array of features such as the Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian Detection to help prevent frontal collisions, Blind-spot monitoring with Rear Cross-traffic Alert to warn the driver of approaching vehicles or people from behind, and Lane Keep Assist to help the driver steer the back within the lane on the open road. Aside from these, the G90 also has Dynamic Bending Headlights with High-Beam Assist for better road illumination when cornering and a multi-view camera that monitors everything around the car.

Powering the G90 is a beefy 5.0L V8 engine that generates 420 hp and 519 Nm of torque. There’s also an available 3.3L twin turbo V6 powerplant that churns out 365 hp and 509 Nm. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives all 4 wheels.

For a more enjoyable driving experience, the G90 has what’s called an Intelligent Drive Mode. This feature consists of 4 driving modes; Eco, Smart, Sport, and Individual. The Eco mode is designed to provide maximum fuel efficiency while the Smart mode adapts to varied driving styles and conditions. Sport mode, on the other hand, provides a more responsive and exhilarating drive while Individual allows drivers to personalize the G90’s behavior on the road to suit their preferences.

Of note, the 2017 Genesis G90 can only be had outside the Philippines, most especially in the US. Hyundai Philippines has also not given a word if they’d bring the Genesis luxury brand here in the country. We do hope that they would consider this option someday as the G90 would certainly stir the competition in the European-dominated luxury car segment.
