Kelley Blue Book, the rough equivalent of AutoDeal.com.ph in the U.S., awarded 4 Honda vehicle models as one of the Best Family Cars of 2017, namely, the CR-V, HR-V, Pilot, and Odyssey.
These models are all available locally, except for the 2017 CR-V, which is yet to be brought here by the Japanese marque.
10 editors of the online car selling company spent 2 weeks of testing current 2017 models and judged them based on these categories: safety, value, reputation, driving manners, comfort and convenience, cargo versatility, child seats, and technology.
Out of all the models tested, the mentioned 4 Honda models took high honors in 3 segments: 2-row SUVs (5-seaters), 3-row SUVs (7- to 8-seaters), and minivans.
The all-new 2017 CR-V and the HR-V subcompact crossover both emerged as one of the best 5-seaters for the family. On the other hand, the 3-row SUV segment have the Pilot as the front-runner. Lastly, the Odyssey was a standout among the entries in the minivan category.
It’s also important to note that Kelley Blue Book grouped the larger vehicles in a head-to-head contest, taking the sedans out of the equation. That’s because sales trend in the US favor SUVs and minivans as vehicles for the family.
This trend somehow reflects on AutoDeal’s 2016 data where mid-size SUVs, crossovers, MPVs, and AUVs are among the most inquired for and most bought vehicles. Whether for family use or not, looks like car buyers nowadays prefer bigger vehicles rather than the small ones.
On the other hand, Kelley Blue Book also curated the Best Family Sedans of 2017. Guess what? 2 Hondas made it to the list - the Civic compact hatchback and the Accord midsize sedan. Also included in this list are notably huge sedans such as the Hyundai Sonata, Chevrolet Malibu, Kia Optima, and Chevrolet Impala.
