EDSA Munoz

The Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) has closed the EDSA-Muňoz intersection in Quezon City. The said closure, which was announced on the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) official Twitter account, took effect on October 12 and will last until further notice.

The decision to temporarily close the EDSA-Muňoz intersection was made in an effort to decongest the heavy traffic volume in the area.

In a report by the Manila Bulletin, I-ACT Chief Traffic Officer and Highway Patrol Group Senior Superintendent Antonio Gardiola cited the area’s stop-and-go traffic light as the cause of the buildup. This, in turn, affects traffic volume along Congressional and Roosevelt avenues.

To organize traffic flow around the area, DOTr has advised motorists coming from Congressional and Roosevelt avenues to take the U-turn slots along EDSA as alternative routes.

Those going south from Congressional Avenue may turn right to EDSA northbound and use the U-turn slot near United Metro Cars/Sobida. Meanwhile, motorists heading north from Roosevelt Avenue may turn right to EDSA southbound and make a U-turn near Waltermart.

To guide the motorists in the area, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has put up traffic signs and deployed traffic enforcers.

I-ACT is an organization which was created to solve traffic issues. I-ACT is comprised of government agencies such as the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

To date, I-ACT has come up with the No Window Hour on Number Coding and the No Weekday Mall Sale policies to address traffic problems in the metro, especially this coming holiday season.
