Jaguar has just proved to the world that the I-PACE all-electric SUV can cure the very thing that gives jitters to would-be EV buyers – losing battery while in a long road trip. This, in a seemingly coincidental fashion, almost coincides with the unveiling of its rival, the Mercedes EQC, which is at par with the I-PACE in almost everything except for its range. In a real-world test drive, the Jaguar I-PACE completed a 369-km drive in just one full charge.

The real-world test of the Jaguar I-Pace started in London’s South Bank, with its 90kWh battery charged to the brim. It headed to the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone, which is the start of its 50-km long journey through the world’s longest undersea tunnel.

After the tunnel, the I-PACE, with Jaguar engineer Stephen Boulter behind the wheel, headed east towards the historic Mons Des Arts in central Brussels. In doing so, the all-electric SUV went through motorways and rush hour traffic, making sure that it would cover all traffic types and ultimately bringing the I-PACE close to how it should be running in the real world. The test ended with 8% battery charge still left in reserve.

With 369-km range proven in the real world, the Jaguar I-PACE is 101-km short of its announced 470-km range last year (WLTP cycle). However, it still has the upper hand on the EQC and its announced 320 km range. Take that, Mercedes.

The I-PACE is equipped with a 90kWh Lithium-ion battery, which enables the car to reach 97 km/h from standstill within 4.5 seconds. It can charge from empty to 80% in just 40 minutes using a 100kW DC charger, while home charging with an AC wall box (7kW) will take you 10 hours to get to the same level of battery charge.
