Jaguar steering wheel of the future

Most of us probably know what’s a steering wheel and its role in a car. Ever since humans learned how to drive, the steering wheel is a component that a driver rotates in order to steer a vehicle. Simple.

However, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) introduced an innovative idea that brought upon the inception of what they call as the “steering wheel of the future.” Meet Sayer – a steering wheel that doesn’t look like one.

Sayer is a voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel. It is specifically designed for the time when self-driving connected cars are the norm and humans don’t own personal cars. As such, Sayer isn’t actually attached to the car’s dashboard unlike the traditional steering wheel.

To put things in perspective, Sayer is like a gadget that you carry whenever you leave the house. It functions as your personal assistant that will help you get a ride whenever you need one. You can also tell Sayer that you’ll be attending a meeting within the week. On the day of the meeting, the steering wheel of the future will get a car for you, which will autonomously arrive at your house.

Sayer will be one of the main feature on Jaguar’s upcoming concept car dubbed as Future-Type. On a side note, Sayer owes its name to one of the most prominent designers from Jaguar – Malcolm Sayer.

JLR will reveal Sayer during the inaugural tech fest at Central St Martins art, design and technology college in London. It is at this event where the British automaker could announce additional capabilities of its steering wheel of the future.
