Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the country, has made a grand return at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). And their main highlight was the much-awaited debut of the Veloster.
This is a “sports” compact car that combines the playful design of a sports coupe with the functionality of a hatchback. This makes sense considering that the platform is shared with the Accent. What makes it stand out though is its sloping roofline and it’s asymmetric doors. There’s 1 big door on the driver’s side and 2 smaller doors on the passenger’s. Designers just cleverly hid the rear door handle on the c-pillar, creating an illusion of a 2-door coupe.
The interior features leather-clad seats, auto climate control, and a 7-inch touch screen head unit. This new infotainment system plays radio/CD/MP3 music and pipes it into a set of premium audio speakers.
Under the hood, the Veloster springs to life using a turbocharged 1.6L Gamma T-GDi gasoline engine that pushes 204 hp and 264 Nm of torque. The driver can then maximize using a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with H-Matic for a spirited drive.
When it comes to safety, the Veloster boasts a rigid reinforced steel body and frame with B Pillar Impact Management System. On top of this, it also has SRS airbags and ABS with Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
The Hyundai Veloster is now available in 1 variant - the 1.6L T-GDi GLS 7-speed AT DCT with a price of P1,548,000. Colors available include Sleek Silver, White Crystal, Dazzling Blue, Phantom Black, Sunflower, Vitamin C, and Veloster Red.
