The game of trucks in Thailand is in full swing as Mitsubishi and Toyota trade blows in announcing their new beasts. Toyota drew first blood as they unveiled the facelifted Hilux that’s now fitted with a chromed hexagonal grille. Mitsubishi responded by releasing a teaser video of a new Strada variant dubbed as Athlete.
Mitsubishi says the new Strada (called as Triton in Thai market) variant will be the first sporty version of their pickup truck. The teaser video doesn’t tell much but it appears that the Strada Athlete will be characterized by dynamic lines. The teaser also suggests that the vehicle’s fascia will have a more prominent Montero Sport-like appeal. In addition, the Strada Athlete could be equipped with sporty roll bars with fins.
The Strada or Triton Athlete will make its debut at the 2017 Thailand International Motor Expo on November 30. The said motor show could be the first stand-off between the Strada Athlete and the facelifted Hilux.
On the other hand, Ford’s probability of joining the game of trucks is high as they confirmed the arrival of the Ranger Raptor in Asia Pacific next year.
