Mitsubishi Ph formally launches updated 2016 Mirage

Barely a month after making a surprise appearance at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) has formally launched the updated 2016 Mirage. Featuring a refreshed exterior and interior, Mitsubishi pits the 2016 Mirage as its challenger in the local subcompact hatchback segment.

Exterior-wise, the 2016 Mirage is integrated with minor yet distinctive design changes. Up front, it gets a new face as seen on the restyled grille, the revamped bumper, and the more sculpted hood. The GLS variant is also fitted with bi-xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps with LED-type park lights.

The rear is equipped with larger tail lights and a new bumper design. The GLS now comes with 15-inch two tone alloy wheels while the GLX sits on a set of 14-inch wheels.

Inside, the 2016 Mirage has a black-themed interior along with ‘high-grade’ fabric seats. The interior looks relatively the same with its predecessor except for minor changes. It has a new three-spoke steering wheel design that comes with glossy black accent. The instrument cluster for the GLS variant comes with a white lit meter for easy readability. The infotainment system has also been upgraded with a 7-inch touchscreen for the GLX and a 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen for the GLS.

Moreover, the Mirage has a feature called ‘welcome and coming home’ lights which illuminate your path from the car, making it more convenient when walking off in the dark.

In terms of safety, the CVT models of the GLX and the GLS has dual SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Override System (BOS).

Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by the same 1.2-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine that delivers 77 hp and 100 Nm of torque. The engine is still connected to either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The 2016 Mirage is available with two new exterior paints – Wine Red Pearl and Sunrise Orange Metallic. The following colors are also available: Cool Silver, Majestic Red, Medium Blue Mica, Virgil Gray, Aurora White, Savanna White, and Pyrenees Black.

It is now available in 4 variants and pricing starts at P553,000 for the GLX MT, P603,000 for the GLX CVT, P663,000 for the GLS MT, and P713,000 for the GLS CVT.

Lastly, MMPC First Vice President Froilan Dytianquin told AutoDeal.com.ph that the company is looking to sell around 600 to 700 units of the Mirage per month. Dytianquin added that MMPC is waiting for the approval of its application for the CARS (Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy) program. Upon approval, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) will expand its local production in the Philippines by producing the Mirage and the Mirage G4.
