Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is off to a good start this 2016 as they capped off February with remarkable sales records. The Japanese carmaker has sold a total of 4,870 units that month, with the Montero Sport showing a strong force in its segment.
This sturdy performance greatly helped MMPC maintain their position as the 2nd best-selling brand in the industry today. This is supported by the combined reports from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA).
According to them, MMPC collected 19.4% of the industry sales pie. In addition, their January/February 2016 combined sales ballooned by 33.1% compared to last year.
Mitsubishi highlights the Montero Sport as one of their most popular products. Both the Montero’s old and all-new models managed to find 1,595 proud owners last month, which took 49% of the brand’s light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales. Adding to this great news is CAMPI’s statement that this midsize SUV is the hottest-selling model in its class since 2016 began.
Introduced last January, the all-new Montero Sport has this muscular aura enveloping its bigger and more aggressive-looking body. Its cabin also exudes a more comfortable ambiance thanks to its black leather seats with multi-layer cushions and shoulder support. But its most notable aspect is its safety. Onboard is an arsenal of protective goodies like driver/passenger/side/curtain/double-knee airbags, Blind-Spot Warning (BSW), and Collision Mitigation System (CMS).
Aside from the Montero, MMPC’s passenger car market also improved in just 2 months at 36.6%. And in a similar fashion, their pickups and utility vehicles likewise surged up at 31.7%. Finally, it’s also worth mentioning that the Fuso trucks and busses they’re offering have also increased in sales at 30.8%.
