Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) encourages owners of the previous generation Montero Sport to avail of their “Free Inspection Campaign,” a preventive effort against the alleged Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA) that made headlines last year.
10,835 units have been inspected as of March 31, 2016, with none exhibiting SUA according to MMPC. Owners may visit any Mitsubishi dealer nationwide to avail of the service and get a “Certificate of Quality Reassurance” after the inspection.
The Montero Sport made headlines last year after a string of incidents caused by sudden acceleration and brake failure. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted an investigation, which ended in looking for a third-party company to conduct a rigorous testing on the SUV.
On April 22, 2016, DTI declared a ‘Failure of Bidding’ in its procurement for a third-party investigator for the SUA issue. Only one company presented and it failed to give necessary documents that will prove it has completed a similar project beforehand.
For their part, Mitsubishi put in a Forward Collision Mitigation System in the all-new Montero Sport. It will apply the necessary brake pressure if the driver is not aware of an imminent collision. There’s also 7-airbags now available inside the cabin, protecting all passengers.
