The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be adding another truck lane along C-5 this month. The move, which was made after a meeting with the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP), aims to help trucks traversing the said road deliver their goods faster.
According to MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos, there have been more trucks passing by C-5 during truck hours. In addition, officials of CTAP led by Alberto Suansing said that the current 1-lane of C-5 isn’t enough to accommodate the number of trucks, which causes delay in delivery of goods.
As a solution, the MMDA will allot an additional truck lane along C-5 from 12 mn to 4 a.m. within the month.
On the other hand, trucks will not be allowed to park anywhere along C-5 while private vehicles may use the lanes during truck ban hours (6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) except on Sundays and holidays.
The truck lane policy was implemented last 2014 along C-5 and Katipunan Avenue. The Metro Manila Council, the policy-making body of the MMDA, said that the truck lane policy is effective in decongesting traffic.
