The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has begun talks with several barangay officials to discuss the agencies Anti-Illegal Parking operations. The meeting aims to make barangay officials accountable in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of roads and sidewalks in their respective areas.
Among the attendees of the initial dialogue with the MMDA were officials from Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo in Makati City and Barangay Loyola Heights in Quezon City.
It has been long established that local village officials’ cooperation and support for the undertakings and projects of the national government is essential to make it a success. We only have to engage them again and remind them of their responsibility to implement and sustain these programs,” said MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos.
Both parties agreed to take note of commercial establishments within their jurisdiction that are guilty of allowing illegally parked vehicles, especially along supermarkets and restaurants. In addition, officials of Barangay Loyola Heights reached a consensus to revoke the business permits of establishments found violating road and traffic regulations such as illegal parking.
Meanwhile, Guadalupe Nuevo Barangay Chairman German Sunga committed to help clear the sidewalk vendors and illegally parked vehicles especially in commercial areas.
According to the MMDA, they expect to meet with at least 3 barangays each week and hold similar dialogues.
