Good news, as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be allowing access on another bypass route from EDSA, connecting to San Juan, Mandaluyong, and Makati.
The new alternate route is made possible through the agency's series of consultation with the local barangay officials in the Scout Area, Quezon City. Dubbed as Scout Area Bypass, the bypass road will trace from EDSA to a Mabuhay Lane connecting Quezon City to Makati, and is scheduled to be opened next week.
MMDA believes that the new bypass road should reroute southbound vehicles quicker by taking either the Quezon Avenue Flyover or service road, then turning right to Scout Borromeo. After Scout Borromeo, motorists may turn left to Tomas Morato or Scout Tobias, which are both identified as Mabuhay Lanes.
Another option is turning left to Scout Tuazon, ending to Roces Avenue. This will then give choices of either going right to access Scout Tobias or left to enter Tomas Morato.
Of note, MMDA personnel will conduct clearing operations starting March 2 (Thursday). In which, illegally parked vehicles and sidewalk vendors will be rid off from the affected roads.
The agency, however, will allow time-bounded residential and business patron parking on one side of the four-lane roads (except for the Mabuhay Lane). Moreover, MMDA will coordinate to local officials, who will be issuing stickers to ensure that parked cars will not cause inconvenience to passing motorists.
Additionally, MMDA is committed to ease access on these roads by providing directional signages, road markings, and traffic lights at intersections that will be affected.
Meanwhile, MMDA general manager Tim Orbos is positive that this intervention by the agency will help reduce the volume of vehicles passing along EDSA.
