The Nissan Juke has set a world record for being the first car to successfully attempt a ‘blind’ J-turn.
The trick was done by stuntman Paul Swift, using the car’s 4 Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM) on-board camera technology. Moreover, the windows surrounding the cabin were covered with solid black stickers, hence, the blind effect.
While this may sound simple, Swift needs to turn the Juke 180 degrees inside a space just 18 cm longer than the car from bumper-to-bumper. Swift was able to match the existing record for ‘sighted’ J-turn after a series of attempt of backward to forward driving.
The Intelligent AVM system of Nissan provides a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the car’s surroundings by stitching 4 camera images on the NissanConnect dashboard monitor. This makes all kinds of parking simpler and safer for Nissan car owners.
Furthermore, the system includes Moving Object Detection, which detects and alerts the driver from any approaching and nearby obstructions along the way.
“This stunt is the perfect demonstration of the Nissan brand promise – Innovation that Excites. The promise is all about developing technology to make drivers’ lives simpler and safer, and Around View Monitor does just that,” said General Manager for Advance Planning at Nissan Europe, Stewart Callegari.
Of note, the Intelligent AVM system is a standard feature of the Nissan Juke N-Vision special edition. However, we have yet to confirm if the Juke N-Vision will be offered locally. As of this writing, Nissan Philippines is offering the the Juke N-Sport, which features a sportier appeal compared to the standard model.
Check out the video posted below to see how Swift made a ‘blind’ J-turn onboard the Nissan Juke.
