The 3-digit number coding scheme has been disapproved by Metro Manila mayors due to the lack of time and study.
The scheme was proposed by Quezon representative and House minority leader, Danilo Suarez, and is designed to help solve the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila this Christmas season. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officer-in-charge Tim Orbos stated that the mayors in Metro Manila confessed that the said scheme is in need of further study to distinguish its pros and cons.
The 3-digit number coding scheme states that plate numbers ending in 1, 2, and 3 will be excluded from accessing major roads on Mondays, while 4, 5, and 6 will be banned on Tuesdays, and so on and so forth.
Moreover, Orbos said after the Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting that the Metro mayors have to put the scheme aside for it definitely doesn't fit the Christmas season.
The MMDA is currently enforcing the 2-digit coding scheme which bans vehicles from Mondays to Fridays based on their plates' last digits. It bans vehicles from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in major roads.
